Description

In 2004, NASA launched the Opportunity Rover to the surface of Mars. It was only supposed to work for 90 days. Instead, Oppy traveled the surface of Mars and sent back photos and data for almost 15 years. A severe dust storm blanketed the surface of Mars in 2018, causing Oppy’s solar power array to be blocked from the rays of the sun. After thousands of attempts to reestablish contact, NASA abandoned the mission. Oppy’s final message was “My battery is low and it is getting dark.”
